Want To Help A Promising Student With An Education Donation?
If you consider it worthwhile helping a promising young South African student with a small education donation, please read on...
Nate Menkin has lived in our community for many years. He was an 8 year old kid when we first met him, his parents, and younger brother Adin at the annual community "Lighting of the Christmas Tree"-event.
Nate's parents, Darryl & Marleen, are both South Africans who had moved to the US some years earlier. The family settled in Houston.
Unfortunately, Nate's mom, Marleen, was diagnosed with breast cancer. To provide a cleaner and healthier environment for Marleen's healing, Darryl & Marleen gave up their record business in Houston and moved to Lago Vista, about 20 miles northwest of Austin. Marleen beat the first onslaught of the cancer. Soon after being declared cancer-free, she had another son, Zach. Then the cancer returned and, sadly, she lost the second round against the disease. Marleen passed away in August 2004.
This disease not only took Nate's mother, but also put a heavy burden on the family's finances. Darryl continued raising the children by himself, often under very difficult circumstances.
Today, Nate is an 18 year old young man who is graduating from Lago Vista High School. At 6 ft. 5 in. tall and weighing 240 lbs, Nate has been a star on LVHS football team. He has worked so hard at his football that he recently landed a partial football scholarship to attend Mary Hardin Baylor University!
The partial football scholarship will pay for approximately 50% of Nate's educational expenses. He intends to take out a student loan to help cover the outstanding amount, but given the family's financial situation, Nate could use a little help.
If you feel you could spare a few dollars to help Nate with his educational expenses, please donate using the PayPal button below. (PayPal charges a small transaction fee, but the rest of your donation will go towards Nate's educational expenses.)
PS. We will collect the money, keep records of all donations, and ensure that it goes only towards Nate's educational expenses. Thank you!
