There are many South Africans living in the Austin area. In fact, there are many South Africans living all over Texas, particularly also in the Houston & Dallas areas.
The most common way for South Africans to stay in touch is through social events, which generally is a braai (barbeque). It is often important for newly-arrived South African immigrants to
get in touch with other South Africans as soon as possible. Starting over in a new country can be tough. Contact with other South Africans give the "new arrivals" a sense of belonging. For the older crowd it usually remains fun to get together.
We organize a couple of social events per year for South African immigrants in Austin. We also involved in some other South African groups that organize events for South Africans in Texas, and publish information about South African social events in Texas. The annual Texas Potjiekos cook-off is one such event.
In addition to our own social events, we also help visitors obtain tickets to sporting events, concerts, and other shows in Austin and elsewhere in Texas and the US.

climate is generally mild, and the country is not affected much by natural disasters.

Johnnesburg takes about 18 hours. Unfortunately, South Africa has also had an immense problem with
