SA-Austin Braai: April 18, 2010 at Mansfield Dam Park
We will have our Spring Braai at Mansfield Dam Park on Sunday, April 18, 2010, starting at around 11 a.m. and continuing until around 5-6 p.m.

This one will be a regular braai, but we ask that you bring a dish to share. In the past we have found that it works quite well when everyone brings their own meat of choice and a dish to share. If you need to contact Esme about the braai and you don't have her email address, use the website's contact form.)

If you need more information about this event, please visit the event page.

2009 Green Card Lottery is Open!
The 2009 Green Card Lottery, officially know as the DV-2011 Diversity Visa lottery, is open from Oct 2 - Nov 30, 2009.

Remember this, it may be a long shot to win, but if you win, it is the most hassle-free way to legally come live and work in the USA!

Do beware of scam artists though. There are those who want to enter you in the lottery for a fee. Many of them will merely take your money an run, and some will even run up very high charges on your credit card. Entering the lottery is something you can do all by yourself if you simply follow the official instructions.

SA-Austin Braai: Oct 25, 2009 at Mansfield Dam Park
We will have our Fall Braai at Mansfield Dam Park on Sunday, Oct 25, 2009, starting at around 11 a.m. and continuing until around 5-6 p.m.

This braai will be a potluck-combo, so bring your own meat to braai, but also bring a dish to share. Bring your own chairs too. Mansfield Dam Park is a state park, so there will be a $8 entrance fee and no glass is allowed (bring your drinks in cans or plastic).

We will have our Spring Braai at Mansfield Dam Park on Sunday, March 22, 2009, starting at around 11 a.m. and continuing until around 5-6 p.m.

I say "braai", and for those who just want to come and have a braai, it's OK, but I know that Esme has taken a bit of a potluck approach on this one. If you want to join in the potluck, email Esme for details. (If you don't have Esme's email address, you can contact her using the website's contact form.)

Expanded Immigration Section
SA-Austin.com's Immigration Issues section is being expanded!

Until now, that section consisted of answers to questions that people have asked us over the years. In the months to come, we will be adding immigration articles and more FAQs (frequently asked questions), all written by an immigration attorney.

We are hoping that this will provide useful information to people who have immigration problems, or those who want to immigrate, but can't find the right avenue to take.

Green Card Lottery Scams
Every so often we get questions about green card lottery websites. It looks like some of these sites have started with more devious methods of getting clients, like sending emails out saying "thank you registering" when the person didn't even go to their website at all.

We are currently in a period where South Africans will easily fall prey to green card scammers. There is a lot of uncertainty about South Africa's future and many South Africans are considering immigration. Don't fall prey to scams!

Here's the truth: Yes, there is a green card lottery. No, there is NOT a fee to enter the lottery. Yes, you can submit an entry yourself for free! No, nobody can increase your chances of winning, no matter what they claim.

Here is what the official US government websites says about scammers.

Don't get caught!
