That link mentions the Green Card lottery. Definitely make a point of entering that. It may be a long shot, but if you win, you’re in a great position because you can walk into the US and work anywhere you want. The next entry period will be open next month.

You may have to verify with the Texas DPS, but I believe a regular class C license is good.
